It was Fathers Day this past weekend and the father of my children (like all dad’s – and single mum’s) needed an acknowledgement of his overall awesomeness.  So as the day was his day, he got to say what he would like me to make him.  

Typically his first call was sausage rolls – who would have guessed? Easy things to make or buy if you are into wheat – very ticksy things to make when you are grain & gluten free, eat whole foods and prefer not to use a gluten-free flour mix.

So I gave it my all and the result? Well you will have to read on!!

Something for your soup?

It is still very much warm soup weather here in New Zealand.  Winter has been horrible; wet or cold and sometimes cold and wet.  That may sound strange it’s generally warmer when it rains in Auckland, but not this winter.  Hearty soup is satisfying in itself, but sometimes a little something you can dip in is called for.  

How about one that ticks all the boxes?Paleo/Primal, Low carb healthy fat, Grain free & Gluten free.  Anne from  Just for our Health has posted a tasty looking flat bread that’s ideal for soup dipping!

Bacon and Egg Pie – Grain-free and Gluten-free

The one merit of gluten is that is does make sensational pastry – what a pity it is massively high carb, contains anti-nutrients, adds to inflammation, which isn’t a great thing to have quietly burning away so, for me gluten-based pastry is really not worth eating. 

But even after giving it up I still miss a good pie.

In previous posts I have conquered pastry and used this for tarts and quiches, but never for a fully enclosed – pastry top and bottom, pie.  

Well, that’s changed now.  Bacon and Egg pie – nailed!

This recipe needs care and patience.  It is fiddly, it tears easily and can burn quickly but if you keep your cool, (and watch the oven) then a reallyo, truleyo gluten-free, grain-free pie is the result.
